There is a reason people love these...because they handle and accelerate like a car does. These SUV's are nimble and handle amazingly. People think "I don't need performance, It's not like I race" that's not the only point of performance. A car that handles well has better accident avoidance as the vehicle is better designed to perform at its limits. So yes, buying the more performance oriented BMW would be considered a responsible thing to do in my opinion.
